I didn't love this one as much as book five. It had a lot more of the weight fatphobia crap like some of the early books. It's so distracting and I don't understand what the author's obsession with the sleuth's weight and activity is.
There is also a lot of relationship drama and a not love triangle but then also a love triangle. Felt very high school or young adult. Both in the main characters and in the surfer gang.
I think the relationship drama around the curse will continue into the next book.

Partner in Lime is the 6th book in the Seaside Cafe Mystery series and I couldn't wait to read the ARC I received from NetGalley. I was a latecomer to this series, but once I realized what I was missing, I quickly binge read the entire series in anticipation of this new release. This book has everything I look for in a cozy mystery series - a good plot, great pacing, wonderful characters, a charming setting, and a mystery that keeps me guessing until the very end. Everly is a fabulous character; she is smart, funny, loyal, brave, feisty, and too curious for her own good. At its heart, this series is about family, friendship, love, and a strong sense of community. This installment continues that tradition and does not disappoint. The characters have developed beautifully and I've enjoyed Everly's journey and growth. In this book, Everly and Grady are more open and vulnerable with each other as they navigate their relationship.

The mystery was engaging. Once again, Everly's sense of justice and seeing a friend's name cleared has her investigating the latest murder in Charm. There are plenty of suspects with motives that are believable and as a reader, I just couldn't put the clues together to a point where I felt I knew who committed the murder and was framing Matt. Once again, Ms. Baker reveals the killer's identity in a climactic fashion that puts Everly in the path of danger.

The ending left me both craving and dreading the next book in the series - craving because I want to know what happens to Everly and Grady but dreading because it will be the last book in the series and I don't think I will be ready to say goodbye.

I voluntarily read a digital advanced reader copy provided to me by the publisher, Poisoned Pen Press, through NetGalley. All thoughts and opinions I've expressed in this review are my own.

I'm not a fan of the ending. Poor poor protagonist.

This series is pretty cool and I enjoy reading it, though the romantic aspect isn't working for me.

i just… i could not get past all the weird weight stuff. there’s no point in it, it serves no point to the plot, and made me feel really bad about myself - as the book keeps seeming to make a point of saying that women or femme-presenting people who are MY WEIGHT are fat and gross. so, hard pass.
