Maybe if Riftan learns how to have some self control I'd give it a solid five stars 😔

⛰ What It's About

This colour manga follows a princess, Maxi, from an abusive household where her father beat her due to her studder. She is forced into an arranged marriage to a knight - the saviour of the kingdoms and the most skilled fighter in all the land. What she finds once he returns from war, is that he is gentle and shows her the kindness she didn’t know she could receive.

🔍 How I Discovered It

A good friend who is really into manga said it was a good one to start with as I wanted to try reading some manga for the first time. She was right!

🧠 Thoughts

I had nothing to compare this book to as I’ve never read a manga before but it was really enjoyable and I devoured it in one day. XD
What I Liked About It
  • I loved the illustrations. They were just beautiful to look at and really added to the story with the sharpness/softness of scenes as well as colour language.
  • I liked that the story was from the perspective of someone with a speech impediment and how that impacted how they were treated by their family during medieval times. I have never read a book from the perspective of someone with a speech impediment so I found that refreshing and interesting.
  • It was really easy to follow and read which was a nice change of pace from other more fictional academic literature that I often read.
What I Didn't Like About It
  • The storyline is fairly generic - the love story has been written so many times with the possessive partner trope. But even so, I still really enjoyed the book. I just really appreciate a complex and thorough storyline.
  • I think this may have just been the case with the AU/english version of the book but I think a lot of the spice was cut out as AU has strict laws around that sort of thing, they even do it for movies here so they aren’t too explicit. But they made the book fully closed-door, which I thought was a bit much - I would have liked to see some of the spice, just a little more than closed door as the main plotline is a romance. This is a preference though.

🥰 Who Would Like It?

  • If you like manga without a complex plot with a romance that has you hardcore rooting for them, then this is a good read.
  • If you want to read manga but want something closed-door.
