It was enjoyable but very short. I’m excited to read more in this series, but I was disappointed. I was hoping for a journey. I kind of felt like I got a couple slides out of a slide show. Admittedly, if I had done my research I would have known what to expect.

What was there was good.

Eve and Jinx are two tough characters who dominate the pages in this book. While reading I noticed that the characters had some dry humor. That’s if you got their meaning. I also noticed that this story is sort of like a prequel to the next book. The writer did a good job with introducing the new characters and providing the background to each group of new characters. The story moved pretty fast. There are a few moments where the book has some exciting entertainment.

Cute story, but too short. And I can handle
insta-love some times, but this was too much. haha. They only saw each other like 5 times - it happened far too quickly for my liking.

Eve Erixour (Jayne's older sister) is a mercenary and has a lot of enemies. She is “rescued” by Jinx, a second commander League Assasin, who in turn is rescued from a mortal wound by Eve. Their romance is super fast (its a 90-page novella so they got it going in the second chapter). Their romance is forbidden and full of secrets - Eve needs someone in the League to help rescue her sister (Jayne) from jail. Meanwhile, Jinx is being hunted down by other League Assassins.

The novella is set a few years before Born of Night (Nykyrian Quikiades story) and what I assume is the beginnings of The Sentalla as an illegal organization. We see a little of Nykyrian as a League Assasin and a mention of a “Syn”. The story was short and brief, there wasn't much drama outside of the whole assassination attempt. I wish it was a little longer - usually the Leasuge Assassins are taken as children and they grow up to be “good” adults that need a lot of love.

nice little short story about to unlike people finding each other against all odds.

it all moves very quickly -has to with just 90 pages to do the entire story in- so it’s very insta-lovey but it’s still well done.

the story itself is good, a nice mix of romance and fantasy sci-fi adventure.
but it’s very much romance centered. so if you’re reading this for assassins adventures? not the book for you.
