I always find it tough to get back into a series when it has been a while since I finished the previous book. Add to that the fact that I tend to read quite a few other books over the course of the year and it never fails that I usually have to really think about what happened last.

We are taken back into the story of Schuyler and the group. The book switches point of views throughout the book. The crux of the story here is that Lucifer is attempting to take over the gates and he is using whatever he can to accomplish this. Jack and Mimi are tied to him and doing whatever Lucifer requests. At the same time, Bliss and Lawson are doing what they can to get back to Schuyler to help protect the gates. Schuyler is doing a little searching - she is digging into her family history and comes across some knowledge about her father.

A lot happens in this book and although at times I found the switching point of views annoying, it was great to see all the different perspectives come together at the end of the book. Overall this was a great wrap up to the series. I was happy with how it ended.

Here's the deal, in my opinion. Melissa de la Cruz has some actually interesting ideas! The premise alone is actually a really interesting idea.

And then we get bogged down in plots.

And subplots.

And sub-sub-plots. (And talk about your mishmash of mythologies here: we have Judeo-Christian angels from both the Bible and mystic traditions, but Hel, Urd, Freyja, and other Norse gods also exist. No, Melissa, they are not 'Helda' and 'Erda.' Oh, also Guanyin is an angel. At least she's an angel of mercy, which is mostly in line with what she actually is. ALSO ALSO, there are circles of Hell. And an Orpheus clause.)

And werewolves, who are kind of but not really important to the actual plot.

Your villain is Lucifer. But we almost never see him -- there's no more possession deal, which is a shame because it made Bliss moderately interesting (though I like where she's going with the werewolves.)

Also, thankfully the clothing descriptions don't have quite as many designer labels.

I don't know. The writing is OK, though unquestionably shaky at some points as there are lots of phrases shoved in when one would probably suffice. Also, sometimes Jack and Schuyler made me roll my eyes /hard/.

I like this series, but it's not my favorite.

Very boring start switches between three points of view with none of them being interesting. The wolf pact plot line was so confusing without having read the series but it also was so boring I had no desire to read it. The big battle was so quick in true blue blood novel fashion. Happy everyone had their happy ending.

So the ending had a kind of Disney happy ending feel to it. But since this is guilty pleasure reading anyway, does that really matter?
