Truly amazing second book in a series! The beginning was quite sad for my taste and went ion for quite a while but towards the middle it was much better and the ending was incredible!

Much better character development in this one. Way sadder too. Dealt with a lot of grief. Is it me or does Laurel seem queer? Maybe not lesbian or bi, but maybe Aro or Demi? I'm probably reaching. I felt that there was more than a friendship/sisterhood bond between Laurel and Susannah.

“I release you. I evict you from my heart. Because if I don’t do it now, I never will.”

This wasn’t very good? I was definitely less entertained than the first book. The plot of this one is what I was expecting for the third book. My main issue with this was Conrad. After the end of the first book I was kind of in the middle. I didn’t really have a preference between Conrad and Jeremiah. I was leaning slightly more towards Jeremiah, but I had nothing against Conrad. This book turned me into a Conrad hated. He genuinely sucks. He doesn’t communicate at all. Not only does he not tell Belly his feelings, but he even talk to Jeremiah about things. And yeah, I get it, he’s grieving. But he was kind of like this in the first book too. It just feels like he’s always leading Belly on and giving her little things to hold out hope for without ever following through. I’m SO glad she realized this at the end of the book and finally let go of him.

Now, while I love Jeremiah I feel like the romance between him and Belly came out of nowhere in this book. I loved getting his POV and sure he talked a little about his feelings for her and how they developed, but we got nothing from her. I don’t think she ever mentioned any feelings for him whatsoever. She was too wrapped up in Conrad. It seems like it’ll be Belly and Jeremiah’s turn in the next book so we’ll see if her feelings for him come through now that Conrad’s out of the picture.

As for the plot of this book, I couldn’t really tell you what happened. They saved the house from getting sold and I think that’s about it. It moved really slowly, but also quickly at the same time and not a lot happened. The main conflict was resolved fairly easily. Overall, this felt like a filler book. The only thing I enjoyed was Jeremiah.

Favorite Quotes:
“My dad used to say that with everything in life, there’s the game-changing moment. The one moment everything else hinges upon, but you hardly ever know it at the time. The three-pointer early on in the second quarter that changed up the whole tempo of the game. Wakes people up, brings them back to life. It all goes back to that one moment.”

“All I knew was, I wanted her to look at me like that. After that day, I was done for.”

“If happened because he’d wanted it to. It had always been his call—his decision whether or not we were together.”

“Just like always, he could devastate me with a look, a word.”

“He kissed like he was drowning and I was air.”
