Light, easy, and mildly entertaining. Read it for the writing and Hiassen humor more than anything else.

this book was interesting. i didn’t hate it. however, hiassen is a white author and one of his white characters uses the n-word. he uses it multiple times. it made me uncomfortable and i feel like a white author does not need to 1) use the n-word, 2) write white characters who use the n-word, or 3) write Black characters who say “n-word” in internal dialogue while writing the actual n-word for white characters. i feel like there is some disrespect for bahamians. i feel like there is disrespect and blatant misunderstanding of Vodou. while i liked the actual story, these things upset me enough to take my rating from what would have been a 4 or 5 stars to a 2 leaning towards 1. satire should still respect the people and cultures in use.

Awesome. Tight plot, great dialog. Well edited (so rare these days). When is the movie, because this will be a great movie.

Pretty damn funny, the interconnected parts were almost like watching an early Guy Ritchie movie and a little deep in some parts of it. Characters were well developed and that monkey is something! Fairly fast paced, never a dull moment, and the way Florida is described makes me want to go there too.
