Conceptual genre crossovers in comics are often terrible. Cowboys Vs Aliens is maybe one of the worst comics I've ever read. The various werewolves vs aliens on the moon style mashups aren't much better. But somehow, barbarian Iron Man vs James Bond ninja vs horde of invading plant worshipping aliens works.
This constantly evolving story of espionage featuring unlikely enemies and allies was a blast to read. I will admit that it made me more excited to read Ninjak stories than the narrative following the Manowar armor and The Vine. I'm still excited to see how Airic's (the barbarian in the Iron Man suit) story progresses.

Enter Ninjak is a great follow up to By the Sword. Aric of Dacia is trying to find his place in the world after being displaced in time, while the Vine (the aliens that captured him and killed his family) hire an assassin to kill Aric and take back the Manowar armor.
This book mixes intrigue and action. We learn more about the Vine and get to see the Valiant universe begin to expand. One thing I enjoy about this series is that it mixes genres fairly easily. Volume 2 continues the sci-fi elements from the first volume, but it replaces the historical fiction aspect with a mystery/thriller portion. That shift doesn't feel out of place at all. It actually helps drive the story in this second arc. I was definitely interested in picking up volume 3 after reading this. It sets things up nicely.

I felt more comfortable with the format this round, but man I hated the shift in art style partway through. Whoever that new artist was decided to totally lose all face definition and make everyone look like scruffy, unhealthy bros. Luckily, the art went back to being good in the next issue, as that's surprisingly distracting.

This was another great volume. As Aric is adjusting to life on earth in modern times he is hunted by a group led by Alexander Dorian whose also vine but he subdues them but then enter Ninjak and he is after him and he will hunt down Aric. Their fight is epic, the tricks the ninja uses to knock down his opponent is tricky. And then their is subterfuge, double crossing and what not, chase, another fight and the n team up to take down MI-6 and all the revelations and aftermaths that follow!
I liked this volume and how it had so many things from betrayals and all and cool fights and choosing planet over people and some really great scenes and moments in the past with Aric and we learn about Ninjak whose such a cool character and I really like the art and coloring. Simple and crisp showing the two warriors in great way and the approaching Vine! Invasion is coming and the valiant universe will never be the same! It is a must read series for sure.

I have a lot to thank Humble Bundle for: I wasn't familiar with Valiant when the first bundle I bought came out, but I thought it was inexpensive enough to give a chance. I ended up enjoying all the characters I had read about, and can't think of a single one I wouldn't like to read more about.
It would have fallen flat if the art or plots had been terrible, but I found them enjoyable as well.
On earth, long after his family and people are dead, Aric is a Visigoth lost in time. But at least he has armor - although the armor comes from an alien race and they worship it as sacred and are very, very mad that it chose to bond with a human...
So things aren't as good as they could be, and they get worse when Ninjak is hired to kill Aric and bring his armor back to the English authorities. It's a fun ride and I really enjoy seeing Aric and Ninjak together in a book. It's also what I needed after a very stressful day: it's light in that I didn't have to do all that much deep thinking.

Okay, if it wasn't already cool enough having a Barbarian in (what is basically) an Iron Man suit...we now have a Ninja assassin thrown into the mix too.
Oh yeah, and there's an alien invasion going on as well.
Are you freaking kidding me? Barbarians, Ninja, alien invasions, and secret society's? Together? In one book? It's like someone saw my Christmas wishlist and made the best ever spiked punch at an office party, and its all for me.
Okay, Okay. I've never worked in an office before. Never had an office party either.
But I reeeeally like punch, as well as this comic.
Soooo...Bottoms up!
