2021:

This was definitely one of my favorite books of all time. I loved almost everything about it and I could relate to it. Finch’s character was amazing and he had such a strong personality. The only thing I didn’t necessarily love was Violet’s behavior. A lot of the times I ignored it because she was grieving and she was dealing with her own problems but she really seemed like she only cared about herself. From the start of the book all the way to the end all she thought about was herself. When things were mostly about Finch or others she found a way to involve herself and I think Finch explained it perfectly when they last spoke in the closet. Other than that, the book was amazing and 100% recommend it to everyone. I watched the movie the same day I finished it and it was horrible. Wouldn’t recommend that.

2022: (1st re-read)

  • The majority of mental health related books I’ve read are usually quite a bit unrealistic, they tend to wrap up everything at the end with a giant bow and suddenly everyone’s happy and their struggles have somehow disappeared. This book doesn’t do that which is probably why I love it so much. It’s honest, it’s relatable, and it talks about Finch’s struggles without sugar coating anything.
  • This was the first book that made me realize that I’m not the only one that feels a certain way, and Finch made me feel represented and I genuinely cared about him and wanted him to be happy. That ending will forever be engraved in my mind because of how devastating and real it is

this was the books that made me fall in love with reading. i love how far violet comes and i love how finch helps her.
<spoilers>
i did not like the blatant homophobia with no repercussion or character growth, i also didn't think it was appropriate that the writer did include methods to kill yourself.
HOWEVER i love love love finch and violets story and how we see them fall in love
