I didn’t expect to finish it in such a short time at least for me as a person who’s been on a reading slump for 2 years!

It was one hell of a ride, there were moments where I was fascinated by Edmond’s character but sometimes it felt too extreme or too plain. Which probably attributes to my feeling that some chapters were great whilst others were meh..

Yeah, all in all I clapped to the air when I finished it.

A truly epic book that took a fair while to complete with some audible and some page turning! I am simply pleased to have embarked on this literary masterpiece. The rating of 4 stars is purely from a slight difficulty in keeping tabs on all of the characters! As I progressed through the book the key families and characters were certainly easier to identify although I was thankful for the list of characters in the front of my edition!
The sheer genius of the language, the storyline, the depth of characters and the illustrative depiction that set such a beautiful scene are the true gems of this classic.
I am perhaps a little embarrassed that I have only read this 42 years into my life although I am so glad to have enjoyed it better late than never!

Really enjoyed it. Understand why people love it and it didn’t drag in the parts people said it would. Shame I had a long gap of not reading any books due to work in the middle. Would definitely re-read

I'm still not sure how I feel about this novel. While it was very well written, I found the characters very hard to like and felt they were very inconsistent. I think I may read this again in a few months and give it another try.
