The Clockwork Crow has a very classic feel, probably because of its historical Welsh setting. It reminds me of The Secret Garden or Tom’s Midnight Garden, both of which have a special place in my heart. When Seren is sent off to live with her uncle, she’s hoping for a new life, filled with family and a home she can truly call her own. But what she gets is a drab and lonely existence—the young boy of the house has been missing for a year and everyone but a few servants has abandoned the house. The most exciting thing about her new life is the mechanical crow a mysterious man left with her at the train station. Seren won’t stop until she’s uncovered the mysteries of the magical crow and Tomos’s disappearance, and then she heads off on a quest to save him. The story is beautifully told and full of wonder, perfect to pass along to any child who likes to imagine a world just beyond their own.

Cute winter tale of persistence and magic. I think it’s a good choice for elementary students. They will enjoy the crotchety crow.

It was a solid book and I really liked it.

It was a language experience for me as I was using it to practice German but it was really cute and had a great vibe overall to it. Like a child's book that adults can also enjoy. It was well-paced and a fast read. I enjoyed the magic of the book and although I didn't really come to love the characters, I was still rooting for them.

I look forward to reading it again.

Quite good. A bit younger than much of the author’s books, but definitely not worse for it. A bit creepy, magical, and enjoyable!

This book was like a breath of fresh air from my childhood! A highly atmospheric novel that I would suggest reading around the winter to fully experience the setting.

Our young protagonist Seren is sent off to live with her Godparents in the country. On her way, she encounters a stranger at the train station who hands her a package that houses a mechanical crow. Why did she receive this strange package? After her arrival at the new home Seren realizes not everything in the house is as it seems, and she is determined to figure out where the mysterious Tomos has been hiding. How do the mechanical crow and Tomos fit together? I guess you will just have to read and find out.

This book reminded me so much of many novels I read back when I was a child and I absolutely loved it! I would highly recommend this novel to any person or child of any age.
