"High Fidelity" is an all right book. I liked reading it well enough, but I think my expectations were a bit high based on what friends of mine thought of it.

Putting at 5 stars because it struck many chords. It may not with everyone but it's still a fantastic book. Clever stuff.

charming at first but eventually was an unpleasant experience being inside this narrator's head

Sehr gute Verfilmung, sehr schlechtes Buch.

Loved the way Nick Hornby captures these modern characters. High Fidelity is an honest and straightforward account of one man trying to figure out why he is alone all of the sudden. His pessimistic thoughts and fears...his obsession with music...are easy to relate to. A very good read especially for young hearts.

perhaps this fared better in the 90s when laddism was acceptable but I hated this book. I kept reading in the hope that the main charachter met either a grisly end or realise what a total @rse he was and be redeemed but instead he wore a woman down through stalking and neediness until she resigned herself to tolerating him for longer.
the subtext of this book is miserable 'thank god my ex girlfriends are fat/ugly/old looking/unhappy' now i can move on.
as a lover of music i found the music references very boring too.

The movie adaptation is my all-time favorite movie, so I decided to pick up the book.
It's interesting to read this with the voices of John Cusack, Jack Black, Todd Louiso, & Tim Robbins in your head.
Definitely a few laugh-out-loud moments in this one. Hornby has a wicked sense of humor.

Super fun read. Hated the main character at times but that’s part of the point!
