SPOILER ALERT

What is it with ALWAYS killing off the black characters! For goodness sake, there was only one! I feel the same about most fantasy with diversity. Either the brown people are the bad ones or if a main character--get killed off (or are the 1 character who never gets a HEA). Same disappointment I felt with X-Men 1st Gen.

I kid you not, as soon as it became obvious that that Jett and Kiri were in 'like', I knew he was going to die. Sigh.....

So far, the only series left that I have any hope for is Lightbringer by Brent Weeks.

Conclusion
I HAVE NO WORDS. This is my FAVORITE of these books so far, and that's saying a lot because I LOVED the first one! I'm...scared to read the last one. Like,
if you kill anymore of my preciouses, there will be trouble, Mr. Batson and Mr. Hopper. Yeah. Better watch out. XD

I found the first two books of this series on my shelf left over from a few Christmases past and thought I should give them a read. Needless to say, I am not seeking out the third. I am not the target audience for these books - I am too old - but I would hope that even my twelve year old self would recognize poor writing when I saw it. "Venom and Song" also increases the heavy handed Christianity insert that began in the first. I will say that the world created by these two men is interesting, just wish it had been handled by other writers.

And this is another reason why I don't really read Christian fiction. For me, it gets really heavy with the Christian themes and I just loose interest. I mean, I liked the characters in this book and the personal journeys they had to go through -- Jimmy with the burden of knowing his adopted parents didn't love him and Kat with accepting herself -- but then the Ellos/God theme got too thick for my preference.
