Eden moves to Colorado to escape a trauma from her past, and quickly falls in love with the attractive business owner next door.

I think I went into this book expecting a romance, and instead got contemporary fiction focusing on trauma and healing, with a small side of romance? That’s fine, generally, but not what I was expecting and definitely affected my overall perspective of the book.

I also struggled a bit with the pacing of this one—it moved quickly in some aspects but also felt like the main conflicts in the plot got resolved very early and the reader was left with a drawn out resolution.

All of this said, I know many people have loved this one and I appreciated the way it dealt with complicated trauma and healing! If you’re interested in it, I would still say it’s worth the read.

As always, excited to discuss this one with my book club for our October meeting!

Recommended if you like: contemporary fiction; books about healing; strong friendship side plots

CW: Child abuse/pedophilia; domestic abuse; sexual assault; panic attacks

I loved how patient Chase was with Eden and I thought her heros journey was very well written and told throughout the book. Proud of her and her growth!

Have you ever just really not wanted to write a review for a book? That’s me, with this one. I really wanted to like this book and had pretty high hopes, but I just really didn’t. I’m clearly in the huge minority here, but it wasn’t it for me.

Hear me out though - the storyline and the trauma the character went through was raw and real. There were definitely parts of this book that hit me like a brick, made me emotional and feel for the characters but there was so much missing for me. It felt forced, especially the relationship. I feel awful that I didn’t enjoy this one but it was not for me.

I truly loved this book so much more than I anticipated. It has so much raw emotion and depth. Eden’s growth and strength inspires me.
