4.5 I really love this author’s writing. I didn’t want to put this down once I began.

After a chance encounter meeting up through Grindr, these two men have found a soul mate in each other. There’s a good amount of angst, but I don’t expect fluff with Garrett Leigh’s books. The angst, Dom’s a professional soccer player in England and heavily in the closet for nearly a decade. And Lucky challenges that norm.

I loved the sexual tension and chemistry with Lucky and Dom. And I loved when Dom decided to just give into his heart and I loved the outcome. I loved that Lucky finally found peace, sweet man that he is.

Hookup to friends (kinda) to lovers

This was pretty great. Far more emotional than I thought it was going to be. To be honest I wasn’t really expecting anything. I picked this book based on the author; essentially a whim.

Both MCs are struggling in their own way and find their footing as the book progresses. I would say it’s got quite the hurt/comfort vibe.

I never tired of the story and I was pretty happy with how it all wrapped up in the end.

Only real critique. I wished it had been dual narration. The MCs sounded close enough that it took the first half of the book for my brain to register the chapter switches.

This book was just so superficial. I want you. I can’t have you. Let’s meet in dirty flats & hotels and expect no one to find out. Rinse & repeat.

2.5 stars, rounded up. I cried way too much while reading this. It was just so bleak, you know? I felt so bad for Lucky, and for Dom, and their happiness was so hard-earned. There were a couple of things I really didn’t like, but they were mostly made up for.

So sweet. It's not particularly swoon worthy and I cannot explain why I liked it so much but the characters and their relationship just touched me

Dom and Lucky are very complex characters, who have to deal with their mental demons and social pressure. They have to learn to navigate their attraction while Dom struggles to stay in the closet. Their relationship thus is complicated, hidden, at times heartbreaking. But both Dom and Lucky are lovely characters. I appreciated that Dom did not force his wealth on Lucky and allowed his lover to find his professional path.

The book finishes with a quite satisfying HFN and I can’t wait to read more about these two men in the next books of this series.
