"How could she tie herself to a man without allowing him to imprison her? How could she prevent him from developing his four walls over her body and soul?"
Loved some parts, hated others, but there are profound moments and quotes that will stick in my mind for a good long while. Definitely for the ruminators.

From one wild heart to another...
“The only truth is that I live. Sincerely, I live. Who am I? Well, that’s a bit much. I remember a chromatic study by Bach and my mind strays. It is as cold and pure as ice, yet you can sleep on it. My consciousness strays, but it doesn’t matter, I find the greatest serenity in hallucination. It is curious that I can’t say who I am. That is to say, I know it all too well, but I can’t say it. More than anything, I’m afraid to say it, because the moment I try to speak not only do I fail to express what I feel but what I feel slowly becomes what I say."

Near to the Wild Heart was Lispector's Debut and whilst it astounded everyone at that time, it unfortunately did not astound me. I really tried to enjoy this and the first part was great with the usual sharpness and thoughtfulness that her voice is so well known for - but then part two came and it all seemed to fall apart for me. I kept thinking I had missed an important part, just too much was happening and it became difficult to follow. It was not bad, but it wasn't amazing? It didn't strike me as strongly as 'An apprenticeship or the book of pleasures' did. I buddy read this and we both agreed it's one to reread but sadly it didn't quite hit the spot as anticipated.
