Could have been a shorter book. Lots of unnecessary descriptions. I wish there would have been more supernatural phenomenon.

The synopsis on the back of the book doesn't accurately portray it. I can only say give this book a chance. I did and I loved it.

Odd Thomas (yes, that is his given name and surname) sees dead people, and he often knows things about the living. He’s been having dreams, and he knows something terrible is coming to his hometown of Pico Mundo, CA. Today is August 14th, and tomorrow, August 15th, Odd will have to use all of his senses to stop a massacre.

This is a 20 year old book, but Dean Koontz is timeless, so let’s get into it. This novel is funny and dark, like most of Koontz’ work. Odd is a wonderful character as are the other characters in this book. This is the first in a seven-book series, but I wasn’t sure if I would read the rest since I was only reading this one to fulfill a prompt in a reading challenge. However, now I think I’m going to have to at least read the next one.

Koontz's witty wordplay and unique imagery have created a young, eccentric character who stood out to me. Odd Thomas provides a window into his life and unique world view throughout this first installment of the series.

I love all the Odd Thomas books. Odd is an unusual, likeable character.

ok, so i hadn't read mr. koontz in years and then one day about 3 or 4 years ago i picked this up and it was really well done. still not enough to convince me to start reading him again...but i can't forget this tale from an author i had decided could no longer produce anything i wanted to read.
