A compelling collection written in a style somewhere between academic film writing and journalistic American film criticism. As most know, there has been a great deal of fairly serious attention paid to the margins of cinema, likely more than has been paid to the margins of literature, for one example (Paul Thomas Anderson's Boogie Nights is a film nerd's film in more than one respect). If you're interested in cinematic transgressions, you'd do well to read this book. Some of the essays don't necessarily deliver on their promises, and some don't promise much to begin with, but there is a lot of interesting stuff here on everything from von Stroheim to Doris Wishman to Jamie Gillis (including an entire essay on Water Power...) to Deadheads on film. Definitely worth a read.
