Excellent! Spooky teen corn maze book! The power of friendship! Wow, I really enjoyed this. The audiobook narrator does seem to over-enunciate the dialogue and their range of voices was limited, but I was still quite immersed in the story. It was tense, mysterious, spooky, and funny in a balanced way. I appreciated the way it approached subjects like toxic relationships, neurodiversity, and fat phobia. The best part of the book for me was the pure friendship between Sadie and Logan.
Moderate: Body horror, Death, Domestic abuse, Emotional abuse, Gun violence, Toxic relationship, Violence, Grief, and Murder
Minor: Biphobia, Fatphobia, and Misogyny

I.... fucking loved this book! I really didn't think so going into it!! But yeah I loved it!! I loved that I listened to it! I think that really set the tone for it being a spooky horror! Because this is a bookclub book... I wont go into details but I loved it a lot !! And listening to it came at the right time for fall!!

There’s this review on Goodreads by Renee Godding that I feel like sums up my feelings of how this book reads to me. I know, I know, Goodreads is bad, but they provided some reasonable nuance and clear understanding between representation and activism, as well as shared some opinions on aesthetics that I agreed with:

Before I even read this review I was finding the narrative voice grating, and this review used the same word to express their similar gripes. It feels steeped in social justice language without seeming to fully appreciate the complete meanings of terms, and I just kind of can’t stand the dialogue itself. On top of that, I like unconventional narrative structure, but it really got into the situation without me feeling any sort of care for the characters. Also I don’t like that Logan, the resident Asian character, got the protag injured in a reckless driving situation??? That felt a little gross to me.
Representation matters in fiction, but it is difficult to enjoy when it feels kind of like social media flavored social justice language being regurgitated back at you in almost checklist form.
