I have been wanting to read this series for a while and my sister gifted me this book for my birthday this year. The first book disappointed the hell out of me, but I wanted to carry with this series, and I am so glad I did. This second book is so much better than the first book.

This book has two points of view. The first is Emmeline Austin, she has been living under her father’s thumb for years. But she is ready to break free. She's abandoned her life as a New York socialite to follow her dreams of becoming a kindergarten ticket in a small, wholesome town. What she didn’t expect to see was the man that broke her heart nine years ago in the same small town she’s just moved to. The second point of view is Nick Slater. He hasn’t seen his Emmy in nine years, but that doesn’t mean he’s forgotten a thing about the woman he loves. After just one blissful night as man and wife in Vegas, he gave her up, sacrificing his own happiness to keep her safe which is far away from him. But the moment she walks back into his lonely life is the moment he decides to never let her go again. He is not wasting his second chance. All he has to do is win back Emmeline’s heart, keep her safe from the shadows and prove to her that taking a wager on him is a sure bet.

This is the first time I've properly read a second chance romance and I loved the suspense side of this romance novel. Nick was such a sweetheart and was a layered MC which I bloody loved. I hate when the MCs are two dimensional and being like my whole life revolves around sex. Like no. Nick loved the town he grew up, protect his friends like family, loves with all his heart, has some slight trauma that makes him a better man and I just adore him. Emmeline was so badass, and I would have loved to have seen her punch her dad or Steffie in the face just once hard. I love how Emmeline managed to fit right into Prescott and how she fought for the kids in her class that don’t have a good home life. I love that she was determined to make her own money and letting daddy pay for everything. The plot twist on this book was gobsmacking I wasn’t expecting it at all.

I have just realized now that she has another series based on Clifton Forge which I didn’t know was linked and it’s not majorly linked but they are talking about these towns and Nick goes to the town to see his brother and father, which is making want to read Clifton Forge.

I didn’t rate this book five stars because I think that the next book in the series could be better. I am hoping that Silas gets his own book because he is being tall, dark and handsome and I want to know him more.
