And although Levin's writing is still good and has a good rhythm, the main character seems out of character compared to the first book and it's hard to believe her behavior in the face of what happened in her youth. I suggest reading it as a sequel to the first book and not expecting it to be another masterpiece, but it's still a good book.

I thought the negative reviews were potentially being too harsh and that I’d end up liking aspects of this book but that was unfortunately not the case. This book is boring, lacks the creativity of the first book, and Rosemary’s character becomes unrecognizable in terms of the characteristics set up in the first book. Not to mention the ending is just bad and such a cop out for something that could have been well built out throughout. This book was a huge disappointment and while it had twists none of them felt well done and I often found myself confused and annoyed while reading this book.
