My mind is full right now but also emptied out. Having read this, I've gained so much insight. It's fascinating to have a glimpse inside the writer's mind, how they think, speak, react, how they operate; and in a way, having the opportunity to examine their thoughts and emotions closely. It was personal and fulfilling because Gornick's mind will never bore you, her words are just so hard-hitting you will take all the the blow no hard feelings. Many times I have to read a sentence/passage three times just to make sure I didn't miss out a point. Yes, but can you blame me, tho? I was that invested that I don't want anything Gornick says simply slipped off me because they're all too valuable. However, I am also certain that my version of myself now is still lacking both in experience and wisdom to fully grasp all the gems hidden in this book. And I reckon, that's fine because I could see myself years from now reading this again and seeing it in another light.

Gornick tiene una capacidad increíble para ponerle palabras a intuiciones y sensaciones que llevan acompañándome toda la vida.
No es su mejor libro, pero qué bien hilada la idea del autosabotaje y la necesidad de sentirse incluida pero diferente.

I enjoyed these essays more than I thought I would. I am not completely in lovd with Gornick’s language, but I do enjoy her writing. Her stories and the way she observes other people are fascinating. Looking forward to read more by Gornick.
