the poems of nakahara chuuya is a collection of poetry by nakahara chuuya, though that's obvious. i liked that the book started with an introduction to the author himself, despite my already knowing about him before picking up the collection. i think it's helpful in understanding his art. i especially liked the poems about life and death, they were hauntingly beautiful. the translator did a wonderful job as well, because this really touched my heart. the way nakahara chuuya wrote of loss, death, loneliness, and pain was sad and beautiful at the same time, and i really appreciate his artistry. truly lovely and full of memorable lines.

I was never a poetry kind of person but I really enjoyed reading this
my favourites were the hour of death, lost hope, autumn, cloudy sky, half my life and phantasm (especially the last two)

I am quite sceptical when it comes to translated poetry, but this had some of the most beautiful and vivid imagery I've read.

This entire collection was absolutely stunning. I didn’t want it to end. Definitely one of my favourite poets. He tells you a story with few words, and it’s all that is needed to crush you.

it is kind of crazy how much I can relate to Chuuya through his poetry. he is renowned for his beautiful, haunting imagery and song-like flow, and though this edition had to sacrifice flow, it very much made up for it by preserving the imagery. there were very few poems which didn’t resonate; in fact most had at least one line that truly struck me. how was he so good at putting into words the big and terrifying emotions I have never been able to describe? this may be the collection that reignites my adoration for poetry.
