Ana Dakkar is a freshman at a five-year high school,
Harding-Pencroft Academy. It's a prestigious school, for future marines, marine biologists, and naval explorers in the world. Since her parents died the school has become her home. The only family she has got is her brother, who is a senior.
When her class goes on a weekend trial on the sea, the whole part of the land, that house the school complex explodes. The rival school that they have been in conflict with for the last 150 years has attacked and her class is the only thing that can protect the legacy left.
A few students with Ana in charge embark on a dangerous mission, all while on the run from the rival school.
A retelling of 20 000 Leagues under the Sea, the story is full of adventure and nail-biting moments. Past and future merge in the story of survival, alt-tech, friendship and betrayal.
I was on the edge of my seat for most of the book and couldn't stop reading, it's so so good!
Highly recommend it!

Rick Riordan's character's are *chefs kiss*. The characters in this were no different, and they were definitely my favorite part of the book. I loved pretty much everything else about the story as well, especially the baking orangutan.
My only big criticism was the suspension of belief. I felt like some of the plot was a little too crazy to believe, not to mention a small group of freshmen running a whole yacht(and doing other stuff, but no spoilers). But I suppose it is a fantasy novel and the freshmen are all super smart and selective.
Anyway, I had a lot of fun with Daughter of the Deep. I know it's different from what uncle rick usually writes, and doesn't have the years of books that the PJO universe has, but it's still definitely worth the read!

Absolutely INCREDIBLE!! I love it so much and want to re-read it right now! The plot had me on the edge of my seat!
Such a wonderful and realistic development of characters. A fun mix of realistic fiction and sci-fi. Also arguably the best autism representation that I have seen in media (my brother is autistic so I know a think or two 😄).
Absolutely no spice and romance is NOT the driver of the plot which is something I love to see.

First of all, I want to read ANY BOOK read by Soneela Nankani.
Second, Rick Riordan has learned from any failures he might have had with Magnus Chase and Percy Jackson… Daughter of the Deep strikes a true fan in me. I am obsessed with Anna and all her heroics. The details are fun and the characters are left open just enough to leave open for future text.
Finally, long live strong female leads!!
