The writing was a bit simplistic for my tastes. It felt like I was reading a middle grade novel at times, even though the content is definitely geared towards older readers. Still, I didn't want to put this book down, and it left me feeling happy and satisfied in a way that a book hasn't in a long time.

A sweet, kind-hearted little fantasy romance. It's definitely a little rough compared to some of the author’s later work (in style and also in general depiction of gender/sexuality) but the plot twists are clever, the world feels original and overall I enjoyed it.
