“I don't have an American half and a Japanese half. I am a whole person. Nobody gets to tell me if I am Japanese enough or too American.”

Read: The Princess Diaries but make it Japan!
This book was an eduction in Japanese culture mixed with a sweet story of family reunited and forbidden romance. It sat on my shelf for a couple of years but I'm so glad I finally picked it up. Izumi was a fun character who was had just the right amount of smarts and sarcasm. Strong Own Voices rep that was well-done and most importantly, not overly done. Overall a feel-good read and I'm curious about the sequel.

I absolutely loved this book! It was a wonderfully perfect mix of romance, identity seeking and conflict while managing to have a very playful feel. The MC’s personality was vivid and relatable and just made me want to be her BFF. I found myself smiling often and stayed up very late to finish reading. Very well done!

This is a young adult book about a Japanese-American teenager who discovers that her father is the crown prince of Japan. We get the typical rags-to-riches-surprise-princess cliche story, but since I've never read a novel depicting Japan's Imperial family before, I find this story fascinating.

Emiko Jean has, through words, spun a picture of the country so beautiful that it makes me take the next flight to Japan.

Also, the cover is gorgeous!

Emiko Jean do you have won my heart!

This book was like a movie watch over and over again, one the watch it’s raining outside anymore to cuddle up mountain one when you need a good laugh, one you share with your little cousins, and recommend to everyone you know.

This book gives you all the Princess Diaries vibes (which we LIVE FOR), understanding aspects of identity and culture, enemies to lovers, and even a little bit of a second chance romance.

It made me smile, laugh, and brought tears to my eyes.

Definitely one of my favorites of 2021!
