A beautifully written novel with gorgeous prose and lively, realistic characters. Its a compelling exploration of the lives of a group of people who find themselves in proximity to one another. The characters are developed with care and their actions explored through their backstories.
My only disappointments are in regards to the ending . Its very hopeful, but feels a little unearned and undeveloped after anticlimactic meetings of the main characters. Additionally, the implications of two main characters' endings are troubling to me.
The motifs of music and food are very artfully interwoven and bring a musical humanity to the novel. The pasts of each character are equal parts heartbreaking and creatively uplifting. The character work and the prose carry a lovely exploration of human relationships.
