Sie Geschichte ist spannend, und super gelesen. Die Charaktere wirkten lebendig, und hatten eigene Leben und Motivationen, was die Welt nur um so eindrucksvoller erscheinen ließ. Mir haben etwas die aktiven weiblichen Charaktere gefehlt, aber ist halt ein altes Buch.

It was really interesting for the first part, his childhood. As he grew into a man his views of women as either fuckable or not got tiresome. There’s a lot of interesting information on religions and how each interacted with each other culturally and medically but the main character just became so annoying. I think him describing the wife of a colleague as ‘so and so, with a low ass’ was the last straw. It basically sounded like the author’s voice instead of the characters when it came to women and I had just rolled my eyes one too many times.

Velkolepý historický román zavede čtenáře na krásná exotická místa a poodhalí roušku neznýmých kultur. Vypráví však příběh tak nereálný a představuji hlavního hrdinu tak dokonalého, že pokud čtenáře nezaslepí pozlátka vzdálených zemí, musí nutně zanechat hořkou pachuť v ústech.
