48 hours on audible.  I did enjoy it and read three quarters but I grew weary of it and things took too long to happen.  I was not listening enough so time to move to something more engaging at this time.

7 months later.... haha. (Serial Reader app definitely helped me actually get through the whole thing)

There were many sections of this book that were page turning, and many that were... not. Although it’s super long and verbose, it ultimately comes together as a masterpiece and the detail and the way all of the story and character lines come together is amazing. Everything that is in the novel is there for a reason, even if it’s not clear for a few hundred pages. There’s a lot to be taken away from the story and I’m glad I finally read the unabridged version!

Listened to this on Audible. 55 hours! Yet another book where the audio performance added much to the experience. I would’ve been pronouncing all the French stuff wrong. Anyway...

How does one review a thousand page literary classic? It could’ve been shorter I guess. But seriously, it’s a fantastic read (I followed along on my Nook when possible).

It’s the kind of book that would win a Pulitzer, as it paints a vivid image of a specific time and place: Napoleon’s France. Fascinating in its details, which are seamlessly weaved into the plot.

Just wow.
