okay but I actually liked this. Am I... Crazy? *manic cackle* I think I just prefer darker reads lol. I fear this has kick started "summer-ween" for me. I mean who wouldnt want halloween all year round? I live for the dark gothic and questionable vibes. I loved this story and the concept and the fall carnival ambiance. it was just such a smooth and fast read. gory and filthy and adrenaline inducing goodness. Honestly I have to commend H.D. Carlton bc her writing is captivating and it hits. I could perfectly envision all this craziness and it was smashing dahling. Also wow, the introduction to ZADEEEEE, im already obsessed. The writing was just too good, like damn give this authors editors a raise. its currently past midnight and im going to bed with a smile on my face. Also the fact that Zade didnt treat Sibby as an outsider really spoke to his character and his understanding of the various forms of darkness that plague this world and you know a book series is going to be good when it mentions you know what bc that seems to be the theme for all my favorite books. we lust a man on a mission. soooo im hooked babes. lets start this cat and mouse journey shall we.

I started this book because wanted to read the cat and mouse duet however This book had me hooked and gripped from the page I wasn’t sure at first I thought it would be too gory for me but I loved it but it isn’t for the faint hearted. The smut is up there with the best smut I have read a 5 star read from me.
Can’t wait to read the next books.

I DNFd Haunting Adeline but decided to give this author another chance. While this one still has its issues I was actually able to stomach this one without wanting to throw my Kindle across the room. Carlton does lean into the stigma of hallucinatory disorders being "the voices are telling me to kill you" and not entirely touching on less stereotypical cases of these disorders. But this was still a major step up morally than Haunting Adeline so it's in the middle for me on rating.

It was really interesting to find out sibbys story, if you wonder no it’s not necessary to read this book before haunting Adeline because it’s doesn’t really give you that much information that you don’t already get in the Duett

Wow! Just…yeah wow!

Okay this story was brought to my attention when I posted in a reading group I had started Haunting Adeline and I immediately ran to find this.

At first I was unsure of the connection between this and Cat and Mouse duet till Satan’s Affair arrived in Seattle. This book while very dark and definitely the head trip at the end was amazing! I felt for Sibby and loved how morally grey she is. The short interaction with Zade was perfect.

Highly recommend this if you’re reading or have read Haunting Adeline!
