Stardate  5302.1. The Enterprise responds to a report of a Klingon attack in Frenni space. But all it not as it seems. Who are the Ravens, why has Doctor McCoy lost his memory.
Another entertaining re-read.

Enjoyed this. Well paced and the McCoy storyline held up well through the action going on through the rest of the book.

The villains were scary. At least to me. I can see why McCoy would want to repress that.

The premise was interesting; I like the idea of amnesiac!McCoy, at least for a while. Particularly under the circumstances the author sets up beforehand. And the fact that there was a plot-relevant reason for it made it even more interesting.

The only thing I would've liked to see more of is the interactions between Spock and amnesiac!McCoy. There are a few, and they're a pretty awesome look at Spock's side of their relationship, but they barely touch the surface, and a deeper exploration would've been nice. Unfortunately, that type of exploration isn't really possible within the page constraints of an ST novel. Still, it would've been nice.

Highly recommend for McCoy fans in particular. Poor woobie! ;)

In Dreams of the Raven there are two stories going on simultaneously: one is Dr. McCoy's amnesia and the other is an attack on the Enterprise by a mysterious foe.

While Dr. McCoy's amnesia is interesting the Ravens only act as a diversion to the McCoy Saga from beginning to end. And when the main clash between the Ravens and the crew occurs you learn nothing about them, what their ultimate motivation is, or anything about the queen.  It was a book with a weak build up and an even weaker finish.

overall fun and an interesting plot! i thought the aliens were really cool and had some fun surprising horror elements! has an interesting take at mccoy’s past and the dynamic between bones/jim/spock felt very sweet and in character <3 there is a  romance plot though that is so dumb and annoying but easily ignorable LOL :)

great action, McCoy focused, lots of Spock and McCoy interactions,  interesting and terrifying new aliens introduced, the battle scenes were great since Kirk had was in a tight spot with most of the Enterptise functions failing.

Apart from naming those things ravens, the book is a fun read. I mean, I hate that romance had to be added for no purpose at all - can't men and women just be friends? - but hey, perhaps the OC was a bit of Mary Sue, and in that case, this was so far the least annoying Mary Sue I've ever read in Trek novels. (And I've read a lot...)

This is one of the better Trek books I've read. The characters were right and the plot was suspenseful and even a little dark. Very well done.

This took a bit to get into once McCoy hits his head. I missed McCoy’s old self as much as Kirk did and I was much more annoyed about it. McCoy goes back to being a pretty young man and I kind of just wanted to hit him again since he was obviously hiding. It was a bit messy explaining what had actually been dong before the accident but it was okay. The villains were quite creepy though.
