Kaplan is a really good short-story writer. All of the stories in this collection focus on interpersonal relationships, most of them quite ordinary, but they are almost all compelling (the exception being the last one that dragged on and didn't give the information that the reader was aching for). One thing that really bothered me were the several typos that jumped out at me (they always do that!) and I just don't understand how the publishers can let that happen! Here's one lovely example: "He knew he was should also imagine he could see his wife..." Say what? So read these for the smooth writing and inner-lives of the characters but be prepared to get your Angry Grammar Face on.
