Really struggled on whether to rate this 4.75 or just plain 5 stars. I was very captivated by this story. It was hard to put down, but at the same time it was sometimes hard to get through. Because it dances throughout time and a large cast of characters and contexts, it was hard to get into some of the historical chapters, but then I never wanted to return to the modern day timeline. This was very informative and inspiring, and I genuinely learned a lot while I read. This really is a masterpiece. There is soooo much to this story, and that’s part of what makes it incredible. I’m glad I read it and I would recommend it to others, especially fans of Cloud Cuckoo Land.

Normally I hate books that jump around chronologically, it usually feels like a gimmick that serves no purpose. But this book did it very effectively.  I loved every single part of it.  The characters, the history lessons, the mystery, and the book connecting all of them.  Warning that there is a lot of trauma to digest.

A good book for Passover. I liked this more than I initially thought I would. It traces the origins of an ancient Haggadah through the lens of a book conservationist. Each stain, hair, or insect wing that's found in the book gets a beautiful origin chapter. A very dreamy mystery through the centuries with a surprise twist. I learned bits of Jewish history that weren't on my radar, which, I think, was the point. Kind of Red Violin mixed with (sorry) a little Dan Brown. Beautiful.
