One of the best things I've read all year. Two failed individuals, somehow finding love amongst the minutiae of clauses and paperwork of Westminster politics, and showing how beautiful those moments of light can be. The characters are given depth and care, the side characters as well as the main, and the setting is beautifully detailed. The political detail is vivid and comprehensive but never dull, and I was gripped by it all. The angst moments were never overdone, and the crucial topics like grief and depression were addressed in a careful and meaningful way.
It was so well paced too, a perfect example of how good a novella can be. I finished both wishing I could read more because I enjoyed it so much and feeling that it was perfect just how it was, a moment of their lives captured for me.

Beautifully written short m/m contemporary political romance between Ari, a brusque workaholic civil servant and Jules, a kind, inexperienced special advisor. I was blown away by how much the author crammed into 81 pages - the world and characters were wonderfully vivid and the romance was achingly lovely and melancholy. I laughed, I cried, I read it in one sitting. This is a story about grief and compassion, and how you have to grab happiness while you can.
