SO so good. I wasn’t expecting the ending, but I think that says more about me than the play. Sorry for being vague, but I don’t feel like getting into spoilers because then we’ll be here for a while. I was surprised that this is from 1879 — I was thinking it had to be late 1800s from the dialogue (it was funny how out of place “thanks” felt), but the gender politics felt so modern that I started thinking 1920s. And like, I knew this was a famous feminist play. Even with that context, I was surprised. Very excited to see the live performance in NYC; Grace and I got tickets because Arian Moayed from Succession is playing the male lead, and after reading this, I’m glad we did.

No rating from me. ‘Twas a classic, it was very easy to read, quick to get through and was a good commentary on society. Not much else to it. A good classic to start with???

The majority of this made me extremely angry but I liked the ending a lot. Really quick read and pretty easy to get through.

I appreciate the meaning behind this play, it is very simple to understand and read and I did enjoy reading it. Sadly though, it didn’t seem to go anywhere and I wished it had more of an interesting story line. Perhaps this should be read if you’re in a slump as it is extremely easy to follow the storyline.

I can’t imagine what it would’ve felt like reading this as a woman in 1879. Must have been so liberating.
