Wow. Honestly, this book was crazy hard to read, but after studying it in class for a week I felt like I had a better handle on it. It’s not the most accessible poetry of all time, but it’s very deliberate and specific. A very complex and honest account of “otherness” in America, as an immigrant and as a gay man. There are very interesting threads of family and explorations of seemingly ordinary people to extract extraordinary truths about the world.

Eduardo Corral is a poet whose words you savor after the initial biteback - this poetry is full of heartbreak and hope and history, and the meld of how these things fit together is seamless and shocking in its intensity.
