Probably my favorite Watch book so far. THIS is how you write house-elves, JKR! For real - a fascinating meditation on freedom and what it means to be alive. Also, Cheri and the slow introduction of gender in the Watch is AWESOME. So well done

The watch books just get better and better.

As well as a Watch-style mystery, there is also a very prominent theme of identity running through it. About not being defined by what you are or where you came from. How your origin doesn’t define what you become, but be careful you don’t become a king, because Vimes will go spare.
