Oh... bother. Depending on the vivid-ness of your imagination, I'm thinking that it would be concievable for this book to be R rated. It's hardly gory... But a quick warning, there IS violence.
That being said, this is a classic book by an incredible Christian man, G.K.Chesterton. His style of logic and thinking was incredible. He was rather abstract minded apparently, and once had to call his wife to remember where he was supposed to be. She answered, "Home." He was a sort of genious, really, and it shows in his stories.
My favorite character is... oh dear, I've quite forgotten his name :( The criminal that comes in several times. Father Brown himself is quite the character- never have I seen such odd witiness. The whole story was full of this odd genious. I hate to say it but I loved it.
The book is a ton of murder mysteries though, so if that bothers you at all, don't read it.

I've enjoyed this book so much. I have to admit I was prejudiced against this author but I've loved this. I don't usually do mysteries and murder in books but it's so interesting. It's tense, it all makes sense and it treats both criminal and victims with compassion but not in an unrealistic way. It is a tale of the worst of humanity but is still a tale of compassion and love.

Fascinating little tales, very well crafted and just the right length to read before bed. I love Chesterton's knack of setting a scene, and Flambeau is possibly one of the most interesting characters I've ever read.

This was not what I was expecting. I enjoyed some aspects of these mysteries; they were complex and Father Brown was very clever solving them, made even more fun by the fact that he didn't appear outwardly clever. I didn't love it though. I felt that for the format of short stories, Chesterton took too long setting up a situation that I didn't care about yet and the pay off was very short. I also felt that overall, he was too wordy for me.
