I liked this book and I enjoyed the narrator. This book was an intense piece of investigative journalism about the ocean -- parts that are rarely seen and what's happening on them. I loved that Urbina took wrote about different places and how they're interconnected.

Well-written, well-researched, and harrowing in prose and in content. A collection of issues interconnected through legal, sociopolitical, and personal story, Urbina has written a journalistic expose of the seas unlike anything I have ever seen. I was enthralled the whole time. I learned so much.

And, despite my usual misgivings on journalists who spill a lot of ink on their personal connections to the story as slowing the pace, I didn't feel like that at all about Urbina's personal asides. Incredible.

This was a hefty book in many ways - the length, the topics, and realities of what happens in international waters. This book covers a variety of activities that happen out in the ocean that many of us have no idea goes on - human trafficking, sea slavery, illegal fishing, extensive environmental harm, piracy, and so much more. I was riveted by this journalistic storytelling and there were sections that I couldn't put down and it felt like a movie versus real life.

What a tense and detailed listen of the variety of incidents and crimes that happen in the open seas! This was worth my wait at the library again for it!

This nonfiction book provided so many different stories, from human trafficking to animal cruelty, each one showcasing the authors dedication to detail, investigative journalism, and chase of adventure.
