I am so sorry girl but the lyrics
you wrote were actually better than the novel.....I mean that as a compliment, like seriously go into songwriting. Also where were the character descriptions what do these people look like? Why does everyone have blue eyes and why is that all we know? I'm confused. What does Jesse look like? Because i have no clue.

Other than that it was the escapism I needed even if it was literally like reading someones maladaptive daydream. Gained some bonus points with the Joni influences too. I would say tho at times it felt a little too modern for 1969, Im not sure if that’s because of the writing style or some of the aspects within the plot but it could’ve done with a bit more detail and observation of the era. I did like the female perspective of the music industry and felt Jane’s story was refreshing and stayed true to her character throughout, so some respect for that also. I do really feel if anything that Jane’s story of balancing art, love and life, and how difficult of an industry music is for woman in comparison to all the male characters around is the strongest aspect of the novel. Vincent can piss off.

As it was comparable to Daisy Jones and the Six, and by that i mean it was written on the cover of songs in ursa major itself, i didn’t enjoy this as much. But it did fill my appetite for another 60/70s set story, and i’d be lying to say it wasn’t entertaining and a ‘page turner’. It’s getting a 3.5 maybe a 4?

It hurts to give this 2 stars because I was really looking forward to reading it. I was so disappointed :( I am obsessed with the 60s/70s music scene, so the setting and premise were exciting. Unfortunately, the writing was so dry and boring that it was challenging for me to connect to the story. Honestly, half the time, I wasn't even sure what was going on and had to re-read paragraphs multiple times. That's how boring it was...

The book says that Jesse and Jane are all of a sudden in love, but didn't convince me at all. The book just told me what was happening but wasted opportunities to evoke emotion through the writing.

I'm an emotional person and I couldn't care less about these characters. Which is sad because the book focused on some pretty serious issues that normally would really upset me.

I really wish I enjoyed this, but I couldn't wait to finish it and get it over with.

I was afraid this one would be too much like "Daisy Jones & The Six", which it wasn't and I appreciated that. All in all I have mixed feelings about this story. I loved the independence of the Quinn family, I loved that Jane didn't back down and I thought the insight into the 60/70s music industry was quite interesting. I also liked the variety of supporting characters. I wanted to root for Jane and Jesse to be honest, but Jesse made that difficult. The secret Jane and her family kept caught me by surprise to be honest and in a way it invalidated earlier parts of the story for me and thus by the end I lost a bit of interest in it all ( 5 September 2024)

[I've stopped rating books in May 2024]

DNF at 220 pages. Not a bad book but at the same time I was never captivated by it. I have a feeling this will be an unpopular opinion

i have pretty mixed feelings about this book! a lot of the changes plot wise, character wise, and ~event~ wise felt very sudden! like woah woah woah slow down WHAT???

i liked jesse and jane but i did want to strangle them at times but some of their lines had me cheesing

i didn't like how greg and the rest of the breakers just all disappeared from the story??

everyone says this book is very daisy jones and the six coded but i feel like the part that wasn't like trying to be about the band and stuff was actually the part i enjoyed most? once the breakers broke up (pun intended) i feel like i got to learn more about jane. the beginning tried to make it ensemble-y when it was really just about jane.

this did feel very movie in my mind and there were a lot of parts where i giggled and i had fun reading this w/ one of my friends but overall i don't think this was like LIFE CHANGING YOU MUST READ

the time skip FIFTY YEARS was wild and then jane and jesse dont even end up together. just felt a little lackluster. i wish 49 was the last chapter and 50 didn't exist.

i did like this book but it just felt like it was trying to do too many things. if it like picked either to be about the breakers or jane it would've been so much better. but why was i investing time into these characters only for them to fall off the face of the earth?

charlie coming back(?) was confusing. i wish there were more breadcrumbs. maybe im just dumb tho

justice for morgan wtf having her husband cheat on her the night before they got engaged boooo jesse reid (you're still hot) booooo
