I thought it was a pretty good book. Definitely a little slow, but it takes time to build the world out.

Taking a review from my 15 year old I gave this book a chance. I was not disappointed. The author has an enthralling way of telling a story! As a massive fan of the twilight saga, I was taken back to the sheer animal attraction between mortals and immortals. The suspense, passion, lust and intensity had me turning the page. Bearing in mind that some of my favourite books are the bronze horseman, a little life and pillars of the earth, I have a varied interest and supernatural and vampires etc are not usually my choice! I have to say I am racing to steal the next book from my daughter and I am off to buy the others in the series! It has a 5 star rating from me as it has kept myself and my daughter in deep, intellectual conversation, it will encourage the youth of today to commit to a book, her illustrative language builds the most detailed, vibrant and lifelike characters and scenes and has remodelled an overused idea to brilliance!

I would say this book lived up to the hype. I read in another review that it's a mix of Beauty and the Beast and Twilight with a sprinkle of Hunger Games and I definitely agree. Highly recommend if you like Fantasy!

A fantasy with easy to follow world building and kept me on the edge of my seat.

I'm recently back to the reading game (thanks booktok/bookstagram!), and of course heard the hype. Got a great deal on the whole ACOTAR series and was super excited to read them.... from dates read, I started in Jan 2024 and finished in OCTOBER. I could not get into this book, it felt off. I didn't care about most of the characters, I wasn't enthralled by the "mystery" that was being proposed. I can't describe it but I was not sucked in immediately like others have. The first 100-200 pages were difficult to keep pushing on, then I got put into a reading slump and I was just not having it. However, my annual Skyrim playthrough and completion-ist at heart needed to read this damn book series. Once I hit halfway+ I read it super quickly, but not in a voracious, I NEED to know what happens way, in a "I really just wanna see what all the hype is about" way. I'm going to guess that book 1 is not the selling point and it's either the whole universe or probably the last one? I've been pretty good at avoiding most spoilers.  I am interested to see how the story progresses and hopefully fall in love with this universe like everyone else!
