This was brilliant! Patel has created a gorgeous play where themes of nation, identity and coming of age sit perfectly beside each other. The solo character/performer Rahul was a delight to read and Patel has written some really searing and heartful stuff. I'd put this play up there with other state of nation plays like the 'Death of England' duology from Williams and Dyer and 'ear for eye' by debbie tucker green. Simple in execution, bold in storytelling - give this a read!

I really enjoyed Patel's latest play ([b:An Adventure|42121524|An Adventure|Vinay Patel|https://images.gr-assets.com/books/1538699103s/42121524.jpg|65717213], and wanted to sample some of his other works. This monologue was his first fully produced play apparently, and while it shows promise, it's definitely the work of a neophyte. It didn't help that much of the references were NOT things I was familiar with (as a Yank), but it was still fairly accessible and readable.
