A difficult but engaging read. The older I get, the more horrified I become at what those younger than me have dealt with.
This was poignant and heartbreaking, and once I realised what the conclusion of the play would be I wanted to stay with the girls so that they didn't have to deal with it alone.
The only negative thing that stood out to me was the quite intense fat shaming of a school counsellor, which was unnecessary and didn't add anything to the already harrowing narrative.
Obviously huge trigger warnings with this one - I read this for a university class and was told to do as much research as I could bear. Let's say that that didn't last very long, especially once I came across the 'News' tab on Google and realised the sheer amount of FGM cases that have been written about in the last couple of weeks, in the UK alone.
I think this play is incredibly important.
