This was a re-read for me but one that I enjoyed just as much reading it for the first time, from the fascination of learning Japanese words for the first time, to the fantasy of how life would be if one were to be stranded on an island, and leaving me crying by the end of it.
And while some may find this as a children's book, it holds just the right amount of adventure, wonder, and a message relating to the dangers of the world and the unknown.
I would almost definitely classify this a must read for anyone expressing interest in reading.

Kensuke’s kingdom was one of the first books I read that I held an attachment to. On reread it still left me with that nostalgic, heart warming feeling. It is so magical!

Kensuke is the most precious character I have ever read and I love the growth in his and micheals friendship and how they learned and grew from each other.

It pulls on my heart strings knowing the reason for Kensuke’s hatred towards people and I completely understand why.
The worst part was in the postscript when Kensuke’s son writes to Micheal showing he was still alive so if Kensuke left the island he could have had a chance to meet his son but he stayed to protect his new family who in a immediate threat of danger.

Kensuke’s kingdom is one of my favourite books and I will always come back to it no matter how long it has been!
