I thought this was going to be my favorite Julia Quinn novel, I love Miranda, and I did love Turner at first... but his emotional constipation and selfishness was too much. It would have been more compelling if
Miranda had made him Court her properly before they married and address his trauma/issues instead of giving in to the pressure to marry him so fast. She should have said I'll only marry you if... Like seriously he couldn't get over himself until she gave birth after weeks of silent treatment and then almost died?
Eff you Turner, you do not deserve her and she forgave you too easily every single time.
especially after the first kiss... that was definetly harassment and could be considered assault

Also the way he was so dismissive in that one scene when she inquired about a writing on women's suffrage... Eff you

I finished the book because I had hoped the main characters might mature or somehow become better people, but I was greatly disappointed. The male mc was one of the worst love interests I've ever had the misfortune of reading about, but the female mc is so enamoured with him that she lets all of his bullying and neglect slide. He causes her a great deal of emotional trauma in the name of his own trauma. This is the first book I've read by this author and I hope this is not a reoccurring theme in her other, more popular works.

I usually love Julia Quinn's work, but I really didn't like this book.  The two main characters were extremely unlikable. I disliked the hero so much that I wasn't even pulling for the match halfway through the book. She should have just stayed in Scotland.  The heroine's reaction to events of the book made absolutely no sense.  I would not recommend this book.  Very disappointing.

I enjoyed this book. I have a soft spot for best friend's brother trope. The characters were good, the plot was entertaining, and the writing was alright.
