Ashamed I didn't read it before. I have to thank mom who gave it to my kid in her last trip to the US. There was some fuss with the film, which I didn't like that much, but I've been enjoying the art work and how Sendak uses size of pictures to emphasize the story, and colours the bedroom gradually to make it become a wild place :).
Don't think I would have enjoyed it while I was a kid, but I can appreciate it as a grown-up.

I was terrified of this book as a kid. But I was captivated by the trailer for the movie and had to pick it up and look at it again. This book is amazing.

Good children's book. Full of imagination. Fun read. It wasn't really my type of book as a kid though. But kids will probably love it.

This was one of those books I absolutely adored as a child. And I still love this book. Reading it now, as an adult, I'm surprised it didn't scare me or cause nightmares when I was younger! It's definitely a book that will be in my children's library. It's also a book I've purchased a few times for kids in my family and friends' kids.

It is ever so hard not to judge the book by how its main protagonist acts, especially in the case of "Where The Wild Things Are". You see, I dislike Max. He is an unruly child, which, I guess, is still acceptable, but he also is a contemptible authority figure. It might be so, that my opinion of his character is mainly influenced by how Max was portrayed in the "Where The Wild Things Are" movie (dir. Spike Jonze, 2009), yet it does not differ much in the short text provided in the book - to put it simply, he is a brat. And it feels like he faces no consequences for his bad actions. But, putting all that aside, the book itself is lovely. The text is poetic and I imagine is loved by children for how beautiful, yet simple (repetitive) it is. And the illustrations, of course, are wonderful and imaginative. I truly believe that those are what have made this book into a classic that people like to turn to even after half a century after its first release.
