I wanted to like this book, I was really excited for it. Especially when they started describing the magic, and it was clearly based on old witchcraft trials and 17th c ideas of magic. That was super cool! But as a read further it was based far more in Wicca, a modern religious movement that has little to do with historical practices. Elizabeth started to bore me as a character, and I was disturbed by the claim that this is a historical romance, given the only person she has a significant "romantic" relationship with is a horrible and abusive person.
Decided it wasn't worth another 6 hours of my life, and rather regretted the hours I'd already put in.

I listened to the audiobook and it was great! The only reason this is getting 4 stars is that at times I felt it went slow and then it rushed to the end. But the entire time I was listening to this book I was sucked into Bess' world!
