* I got this book for for my honest thoughts*

I really enjoyed this book. I really loved how this book was structure through both novel and graphic novel. I found the different narrative told so interesting and it really made me read this book quickly. I really enjoyed both main characters. I also enjoyed the world that was created for this novel and how fantasy it was but also how it handled issues like policies, history and winters and losers. I really enjoyed this book and hope to read more by this author in the future.

All I will say is that I knew it was going to be Not For Me and indeed it was Not For Me at all. But I think it did its thing admirably even though I didn’t enjoy or admire it.

I read this book for one reason - I love the narrator and I hadn't heard any books he's narrated lately. This one was meh for me. The narration was amazing, because I love Gildart Jackson, but the story was just flat. It wasn't AWFUL but just as things would get going, it would switch perspectives. It made the story choppy and kept me from really engaging with the main characters. There were some good parts and I laughed once or twice, but overall, it just was unmemorable.

This book had been on my TBR list since I saw it on the shelf. Just flipping through it, you quickly see that this is something different. Eugene Yelchin's artwork is so unique and strange, very Brian Froud-esque, I knew this would appeal to my Dark Crystal/Labyrinth fangirl heart.

The story is quirky and weird, but at its heart, it is about prejudice and biases and how we see "others" when we don't really know them. It is far smarter than it might look at first glance, especially when Spurge has to sneak into the Goblin undercity by crawling down a toilet. But don't be fooled, there are layers here.

Super innovative style of story telling, and the writing was hysterical.
