I truly adore any Helen Oxenbury illustrated book, so sweet and full of life!

My almost-3 y.o. loved this book. Every night for the two weeks we had it from the library. I loved only most of it. The book is about relatives coming one by one to visit the baby and each enters the house with a lyrical "I want to ___ the baby" (insert: kiss, squeeze, eat. I would have given the book 4 starts except for the part "I want to fight the baby" - I know it's just pretend fighting, but I read this to daughter at the time in her life I am trying to teach her not to push her baby sister and the words go something like, "Cousin push the baby / the baby give him slap" and more hands-on fight actions. I think it was really confusing to her. Each time, I paused and said, it's only pretend pushing and slapping. But still.

I did like the rest of it a lot and enjoyed the illustrations.

Repeated reads will make this a favorite! A celebration of family.

My mother called to say she had found the perfect book for my son and was mailing it to me...imagine my surprise and delight when it was this title which I had already bought and loved! Yes, mom is the one who instilled my love of reading and obviously we have much of the same taste. I kept both copies and now both boys have their own to pass down (one day). This is a joy to read aloud!

This was the book I learned to read on; it was my absolute favorite book in preschool. A large (in size not in pages or content) book for young readers just learning to read.
