I’d give this one six stars if I could; perfectly heartwarming

Incredibly sweet and heartwarming story. It was sad, but ended happy in the best way.

What a beautiful, sweet, lovely book.

This quiet historical set in Britain just feels like a warm cup of hot cocoa.

Best for older elementary.

I listened to this audiobook with my oldest daughter in small chunks in the car, starting as school drop-off soundtrack, and then pivoting to a summer listen when opportunities arose. It took awhile to get through due to the frequent interruptions, but it was a pleasant listen.

William, Edmund, and Anna's grandmother has died; with no other living family, the solicitor has determined they should be sent with a school group out of London in hopes they will be billeted with a family that may be shown to be an acceptable match for adoption. There is a series of unacceptable matches, but it is clear who the suitable match is, even if aspersions have been cast on the individual. Will it all work out as it should?

The plot was predictable but it was enjoyable all the same and it led to some car conversations, particularly when my younger daughter was also listening in and was full of questions as to the historical accuracy of this.

This book is wonderful! It reminded me of The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe in that it involved a group of siblings that are sent to the English countryside while London is being bombed in WWII. It’s not a war book though, and there’s no magic wardrobe, so that’s where the similarities end.

Three siblings, the oldest being 12, are orphans that have been raised by their cold and unloving grandmother, but as the book opens, they are at her funeral. There are no plans for who will take care of them now, so it’s decided that they’ll go to the country with the rest of the evacuees and hopefully find a permanent home.

This is one of those books for people that love books. Each kid takes one book with them and the sister, Anna, takes A Little Princess (my favorite book). I was pretty much sold on the book at that point.

While I assume this is a middle grade book, it was recommended to me by someone older than me and I personally loved it. It would be hard for me to imagine anyone not loving this book.

I feel kind of bad for Kate Albus. This was her debut book. How can she top this? So much pressure! Regardless, I can’t wait for her next book to come out. It’s so good!
