Stands out for a standalone

I'll always love this book. He takes grumpy neighbor to the point of hate-people-doesn't-talk. So he's not overly eager when a single mom moves into his duplex. But there must be something magic about shared walls lol. I think the real gem though is her tenacity. The entire book is written from her POV and she really captures the reality of doing every on her own. While hiding from her stalker ex. It's a nice, cozy read.

3.5 stars.

The writing was not my favourite i’ll be honest, and the book was very fast paced. Sometimes the writing would confuse me as it wasn’t completely clear what was going on, for example the start i had no idea it on the first chapter that it was in first person point of view or that they were playing a video game until the end of the page.

However, although the fast pace made the book often confusing, the romance was adorable and i love the protective tropes within the book. Jamie was a sweetheart and Maddie broke my heart on multiple occasions when she talked about her past.

Overall, it was a decent read and was very easy to get through when i found the time.

Let’s get that negative out of the way!
Knocked off a star bc of how intense Garrett was. I really loved them and how cute they were but it was riding a FINE line of a different form of abuse. It seemed to be consented and Madison’s feelings about it were positive and I’m also aware of how a man of his background is… I just wish it was pulled back a little. I think it was more meant to be implied for the way he cares but it did raise a red flag once or twice (at least for me)

Positives!
Layla and Madison’s relationship was too real and so amazing. Definitely reminded me of my moms friends growing up and even some of my own, now!

Garrett, Madison and Jaime all together were so cute! I’ve been the Jaime in a situation and his wanting nothing more than to make sure his mom was loved and safe was very familiar.
I had more positives going into this and I will definitely be reading more from this author! Thanks tiktok for showing me a good one
